And ... ACTION! Oh, come on! You've got to be ready to make a movie at a moment's notice. That is, unless you don't want to keep your new director job ... is that the case? I thought not. In this preview of That's a Wrap, I take a look at a prototype of the Hollywood bidding and give you the details along with some of my initial thoughts. Ready to check it out? Then it's like I said - ACTION! What Is It?An auction/bidding card game where players compete to keep their job as the new movie director for a major film studio - there can only be one! Players first bid for the best actors and scripts and then combine those with studio cards and their genre cards to create the most interesting movies. They want their movies to not earn lots of money and influence, so that they can then win some of the coveted Oskie awards! It plays over 4 rounds so players have plenty of time to build up their reserve of money and influence, and plenty of opportunities to compete for said awards. Who Is It For?I'd recommend this to fans of bidding games as well as those who don't mind a little luck (since dice rolls will contribute to their films' successes). I'd also say it's good for fans of the theme because it does it's theme well and has some fun with it. Finally, I'd go ahead and recommend it to ages 8+ because it's not very difficult and kids would probably be able to get into the theme a lot. PROS
CONS
Difficulty Like I said, this game isn't super difficult by any means, so I'd probably only give it a 2, maybe a 2.5 for difficulty. The rounds are pretty straightforward and other than adding in the "advanced" cards (basically just better stats on those) in round 3, the rounds and phases don't really change very much. There's some light strategy in choosing what to bid on, how much to bid, and when to spend influence and how much of that as well, but nothing over the top. Final Thoughts Overall, it's a neat card game and I really like how well the theme works with the gameplay. I wouldn't recommend it at 2 players personally, so it isn't so much for me (since I usually play at 2 only), but if you're interested in the theme and like a bit of bidding and dice rolling, you should check it out!
