Big Boss like best shiny loot. Big Boss want little goblin get shiny bits for him. Little goblin do not want to disappoint Big Boss, but me challenge other goblin for best loot! Best goblin always win, because best goblin always cheat! Me show you how!

What Is It?

Picture
If there are any goblins still in the room, feel free to translate, all the goblin speak was hard to follow!

Anyway, Goblin Teeth is a dice bidding game for 2-5 goblins! Players roll their dice and use the values to bid on item cards (shiny bits) to fulfill the offering sets that the Big Boss wants. Nut they have to be careful! If placing a die would cause a tie, or a total above 10 (for that player) they're out of luck and can't place on that card!

They may also sacrifice dice to the alter, which can earn them more cheat cards to help them get ahead!

Who Is It For?

Picture
I think that fans of light "spooky" themes (but the lighthearted kind) will like this, because it has that vibe while still being family friendly. It does bidding and take-that both well, so if you lean toward either or both of those themes, this is great for that too! Finally, I'd probably recommend it to ages 8+ because it's pretty simple while still having a few opportunities for big choices.

It's what I'd call a "beer and pretzel" game because there's more luck than strategy, and it can be enjoyed by gamers and non-gamers alike.

PROS

  • Light and simple to teach and play
  • Face down item card is cool because, while risky, it keeps your items more secretive from others and grants you first player!
  • Good at only 2 players which I find rare for bidding games, so that was cool too
  • Neat, spooky art (*note, this is a prototype so it may not be 100% finalized)

CONS

  • Mostly luck because of dice rolls, random items, and random cheat card draws, so it can be hard to try and plan anything
  • Some cheats seem way more powerful than others (letting you remove an opponent's die versus let you re-roll once or change 1 pip), and since it's random draws, it's hard to combat sometimes
  • Due to random offerings and item cards, games can have a wide range of play time. We played both a 7 minute game and a 30 minute game because the cards we needed/got did and didn't come out all together

Difficulty

Picture

Since there's more luck than anything with the elements in this game, I'd give it a 2/5 for difficulty. It's pretty easy to move along turn to turn, and the actual turns are also easy because you really just have to place dice! But, since you do want to play your cheat cards wisely, that does take it up a notch!

Final Thoughts

Picture
Overall, I thought this was a neat, light, and simple game that would be great to pull out at a Halloween party or spooky-themed game night for any level of gamer. Though bidding is not my favorite mechanic, I definitely appreciated that this worked well with only 2 players and still accomplished everything the game set out to do even at that count. Definitely check it out if you like bidding and take-that action!

My Final Rating: 6/10
